Owe money to neighbor. Need legal answer.?

Me and my mother asked our ex neighbor to pay our rent on his credit card...our rent is $548 and with the online payment fee and a little extra our ex neighbor agreed to $600 and we would pay him $100 a month for 6 months starting in January. But we have been unable to pay him for 2 months and we told him that each time he called. Now he won't answer the phone and we left 6 messages. We are worried that he will dispute the charges with his credit card company as he used a credit card. Will he be allowed to dispute the charges? Would a credit card company or bank get involved in the personal agreement we had with him and let him file the dispute? We could care less if he takes us to court as me and my mom both are on disability and they legally can't garnish Social Security and that is our only income so not worried about him taking us to court. BTW, we want a LEGAL answer. Not some moral BS you people will tell me. Just legal standpoint. TY

Keith they can't sue us for anything cause we have nothing. Our income is Social Security disability and we live in government housing. We have no car either and rent one from Enterprise every month to go do errands. So nothing he can get if he sues us. So was just worried about him disputing the charge.

Did he hand you cash? If he did, he took a cash advance. He cannot contest that with the bank that issued the card. If he paid the rent directly to the landlord with the card (how would YOU get extra cash that way?) he could contest the charge, but he would have to claim that his card was fraudulently used without his knowledge, and the bank would investigate. His lie would be discovered unless he claims that you stole his card and used it, in which case, the bank might try to prosecute you, and you would have to legally defend yourself. I wouldn't worry about that, because if you did steal his card, he should have called the police and his bank immediately.

He can sue you for the money. He could not garnish your SS if he won. However, your SS can be garnished to pay victims of crimes you commit.

Any by the way, morality is not BS. You KNOW you owe the guy. If you think your situation justifies you blowing off your debts, that makes you an immoral person and that is no BS.

You owe the money, pay it back, unless you want to be a deadbeat all your life.They can take you to small claims court for the money, why borrow money when you knew that you could not pay it back, that is like thieving from somebody.

I don't think he will try to involve his credit card company, and I doubt they would reverse the charge, anyway.

That said, I hope he takes it out of your hide(s).

It's too far past to dispute the charge.  He'd have to sue.....but he would win if he did.

They can't garnish SS, but you will have a heck of a time ever getting another place again when you get evicted from this one for non payment and then also have a judgement against you.
