Is Houston Texas connected with the Old South?

I was just wondering because I just found out that Houston had Slave History and Slave Plantations and many blacks from East Texas and Louisiana migrated there. And areas Northeast and Southeast in Houston well the landscape looks Southern especially northeast Houston look more Southern and its close to the Piney Woods while Southeast of Houston is closer to the Gulf Coast. So I was wondering is Houston connected with the Old South?

Yes, though Houston wasn't the big city in that area in the pre-Civil-War era. Galveston was the metropolis of southeast Texas. But yes, of course, the eastern part of Texas had a lot of cultural ties to the rest of the Old South.
