Whats everyones experience like with ADHD/ADD?

Ive got ADHD and when i was younger i would be prescribed risperidone, eventually when i was about 14 or 15 i stopped taking it because i felt like it was all a hoax and no medication will make my behaviour change and couldnt change me. Now im an adult still not taking the medication, sometimes

i literally have to read a sentence like 10 times before i make sense of it, sometimes even if im trying to listen to someone speak to me, i cant pay attention and cant understand what theyre saying and they think im ignoring them but i honestly cant help it, i was just wondering if anyone has this problem, or if they have any other experiences i relate to?

I have had that experience too many times to count.

I highly recommend the twitter users @blkgirllostkeys and @adhd_alien.

Their work in particular has made it much easier for me to understand ADD / ADHD and feel much less alone or weird. There are lots of people who can relate to what you say, you just have to find them! It's much easier to help each other when we have more experiences in common.

My parents were very anti diagnosis and anti medication, but if either of us had understood better, I would have had a much easier time of it.

Also, I learned recently that medication for ADD has been shown very consistently to be effective in improving symptoms. The only medication more consistently effective for the condition it treats is insulin for diabetes🙃

I wish someone had told me that earlier!

Yes, the medication that you foolishly stopped taking when you were 14 or 15 was designed to HELP YOU FOCUS YOUR ATTENTION!

That's what medication for ADHD or ADD does.

And so it is time for you to visit your doctor again and see about going back on the medication and if it helps you to focus and maintain your attention, then stay on it.

Diagnosed as an adult after I was already marred, kids and such. Made no difference in my life at that point but did explain some things.
