  • Sleep Paralysis?

So I asked this question a few days ago and only got one response. While the person who answered definitely was helpful, I didn't hear from anyone else and would like to hear more than one opinion. So here goes...

Ever since I was young, I would occasionally wake up in the middle of the night and sense a "presence" in my room. I'm never physically paralyzed and can move, I'm 29 years old and I still put the covers over my head, close my eyes, and say a poem, a prayer, song lyrics until the feeling subsides. Is this a form of sleep paralysis even though I'm fully concious and can move?

Also, I'm definitely not scared of the dark, I have never been able to sleep with lights on, even little ones (I would have to put things over my VCR clock as a kid)

Also, I know I am fully awake because sometimes, before I go under my covers, I've grabbed my phone and called my S.O at the time. I wish I could say it was a dream but it happens randomly, even when I'm having a good dream.

I am open-minded about things, and would like to hear different opinions, ideas, theories whether it's medical, mental, or paranormal. Some family members on both sides of my family (all women like myself) have confessed to feeling and even seeing a "spirit", especially in their youth (childhood and well into their 30s and 40s)

    Any thoughts?

  • What was the name of that old toy from the late '80s or early 90s that had a hidden compartment?

One of my best friends and I were trying to remember the name of an old toy we had when were 5-6 (roughly around '91-92). It was a stuffed animal with a compartment in its chest with a key to open it. I think mine was a dog and may have had some sparkle in its fur.

  • Could this be why I am clumsy?

So, I am a very clumsy person. I used to think I have been clumsy my whole life but I got to thinking the other day that I used to be really good at balancing...when I was 6, they moved me up to three classes in gymnastics because I was so good. When I was 5, I had my dad take off the training wheels on my bike and on the first push, I was riding, I didn't crash or fall off my bike once...I could actually do things...pretty well actually....

But, when I was in 3rd grade, I got really sick and ended up losing some of my hearing in my left ear. I remember reading somewhere that sometimes ear problems can affect a person's balance and I was wondering if maybe this is why I am a clumsy person now? I mean, I trip a lot and run into door frames as if my depth perception is off (though, my eyes are pretty bad, too...)

  • Questions you never thought you would have to ask?

So, I'm not a parent, but I've been a nanny for 3 wonderful little girls (ages 5, 8, & 9 for 5 years...and I was thinking today, what are some things that I honestly thought I would never say but then low and behold, I have to say them...so mine are...

    1) "Who put shredded cheese in the toy box?"

    2) "Why is there a tissue sticking to the tv screen?"

    3) bed time moment "okay, you have your pillow, here's your turtle, and here's your knife, sweet dreams"--to clarify, she broke her arm and the one thing that fit in her cast to scratch her arm was a butter knife

    4) "you got in trouble on the bus for pinching a kid the day before St. Patricks day?"

    5) "Why is there poop in the bathroom sink's drain!?!?!"

haha, kids make YOU say the darndest things, what have you said??

  • What can I do to help this student?!?

I'm a new student teacher in a self-contained classroom for grades 4-6. The students do math, language arts, and life skills. They do not learn anything else (main teacher is upset about this, too). One of my students came up to me today with a science experiment book and wanted me to look at it with him. He told me that he loved science and that he wishes he could learn it. It broke my heart. It's not fair that we have a student that actually wants to learn something but we can't teach him anything because it's not apart of the curriculum in this type of classroom. The school also does not support many field trips unless the entire grade gets to go (even then, sometimes these students can't go for one reason or another). I just don't know what I can do to help this student, he clearly likes a certain subject and we can't do much to help him...any teachers know have any suggestions???

  • What to do about anxiety?

So, I have anxiety sometimes and during the night (usually about 2 times a week), I wake up in a panic, but am always able to go back to sleep, which is good. Anyways, I had some stressful things happen a few weeks ago and now I've noticed that I wake up in a panic every night now.

Also, please don't suggest listening to calming music while I sleep because I can't sleep with music (I think it's because my mind tries to follow it) and I also cannot sleep with a night light, it really bugs me...I'm not afraid of the dark at all (I was one of the few 5 year olds that would almost cry on sleep overs because my friends would want one and I knew I wouldn't be able to sleep)

  • What age do infants usually start rolling over?

Okay, so I'm not a parent, but I'm a nanny for an infant. She just turned 9 weeks and is trying desperately to roll over. She can get on her side, but she can get on her tummy...and I know, every child is different, some do things faster than others, blah blah blah, but what would you say is the average time most infants start? ALSO, BQ:

*BQ: Does rolling over their belly have any correlation with the time they start crawling, or does that not really have anything to do with it?---I just want to be ready, here...

  • Not really a dream, but not sure what this feeling is...?

On occasion I have woken up in the middle of the night with this huge sense that someone or something bad is in my room. I remember hearing about sleep paralysis and how some people sense an evil presence (hallucinations) during it, but the problem is, I can move my body, as pathetic as I am, I always hide under the covers and but sometimes I'm too scared to even move. I also know that I am awake because after about 5 minutes, I eventually calm down and my fear is lessened but it takes me awhile to fall back asleep. Is it possible that I only have partial sleep paralysis? I don't know what else it could possibly be, it has always been one of those things that has on occasion happened to me, it doesn't matter where I'm sleeping, sometimes it happens a couple nights in a row and then it won't happen again for months. Anyway have any ideas? I'm open to anything (even if you want to throw out paranormal stuff, at this point I don't even know)...

It's a really terrifying feeling. I'm 24 and I almost left my room to go sleep with my friend on the couch because I was so scared once (I resisted the urge though, I didn't want to seem like a baby).
