Do senior citizen apartments violate equal/fair housing?
Okay, I thought that landlords/apartment owners weren't allowed to discriminate when it comes to tenants [who lives there]. If a senior citizen community 'requires' that you be at least 55 years old in order to live there, isn't that discrimination, and doesn't it violate equal/fair housing guidelines?
Why can a seniors' apartment complex refuse to rent to young adults, but if a normal complex were to tell a 60 year old that he can't rent an apartment, it's discrimination?
8 AnswersRenting & Real Estate1 decade agoWhich has best short-term benefits - 15 or 30 yr mortgage?
My girlfriend and I are looking at buying a house. I know that a 15yr mortgage would have higher monthly payments than a 30yr, but with more of each payment going to principal. I also understand that the interest rate on a 15yr is lower.
Now, we're not planning on living there for the length of the term - probably around 5 years. So in this case, what are the pros and cons of a 15yr and 30yr term? Which would make more sense? I know that we could afford higher monthly payments with a 15yr, but how much would the higher principal reductions benefit us if we'll only be there 5 years? Would it just make more sense to take a 30yr with lower monthy payments?
We would be first-time homebuyers, and we're looking at cheaper houses [under 50k - don't worry, there are plenty in our area going for that much!] So tell me what you all think?! Thanks!
6 AnswersRenting & Real Estate1 decade agoWe ALWAYS get stopped at the US/Can border... WHY?!?
My girlfriend and I live right outside Detroit, Michigan, and we like to go over to Windsor to the casino. The thing is, going by the booth where you hand them your ID and birth cert., we ALWAYS get asked to "pull to the side" and step out so my car can be searched. It's happened every time at the Detroit/Can border and the one time we were at Niagara Falls, the NY/Can border we got pulled over too.
I never give them any problems, i'm always polite, so every time, they just say "ok have a nice day" after they've torn apart my car and found nothing [except for the one time some guy took me into a room and made me drop my drawers and patted me down before harassing me saying that i was was a druggie and smuggling drugs between the borders!?]
I figure they're just profiling us because we're a couple young kids [20 now] with tattoos and piercings and my car is covered in stickers. Both of us have 100% clear police records, don't somke or drink. Why do we ALWAYS get stopped?!
8 AnswersLaw Enforcement & Police1 decade agoUTP cat-5 passive balun for CCTV camera system...?
I've been researching CCTV systems - standalone DVRs and cctv cameras - and I've come across something I don't completely understand. I'm looking at using "passive baluns" to connect each camera to the dvr. Now the descriptions in every listing I read says something along the lines of "passive device - no external power required". Does that mean simply that the BALUN itself doesn't need a power supply, or does that mean that when using baluns the CAMERA doesn't need an external power source?
It'd be awesome if the latter case were true, as my company is looking at a 16 camera system, and we'll be running somewhere around 4000ft of cable. It'd be nice if we could just run a cat-5 cable from each camera instead of a video cable to the dvr AND a power cable to a reserved power supply box.
Any suggestions?
p.s. - example of the baluns I'm looking at: http://www.2mcctv.com/product_info-VITEKVTTR1M.htm...

1 AnswerTiVO & DVRs1 decade agoWhy are train tracks always lined with gravel?
with the exception of at railroad crossings [where cars pass over the tracks], train tracks always seem to be surrounded or lined with gravel underneath the tracks and on a few feet on either side. you don't see tracks laid on top of cement or dirt or sand or grass or asphalt... always gravel.
anyone have a logical explanation?
13 AnswersRail1 decade agoSoftware to upload pics from sanyo3100 to computer?
All I want to do is upload my pictures from my phone (sanyo 3100) to my computer. I bought a usb cable, but it didn't come with any drivers or software or anything.
Where can i find software (preferably a free or cheap download) to let me transfer my pics from my phone to my computer? Although they'd be a bonus, i don't really need software to sync my contacts or to generate or transfer ringtones or wallpaper or anything like that. i'm just worried about getting my pics to my computer.
thanks!
