Has anyone tried the Eco Bio-Block for their tanks?
A friend of mine raved about it, so I bought one, am waiting for it to arrive but am wondering if it's worth the money (they were quite expensive).
I looked into it and found some good reviews in aquarium magazines and studies done in Japan and India with eco bio blocks being used in sewer systems and water treatment plants so it seemed legit. Anyone have any experience with them?
2 AnswersFish1 decade agoAre my tanks full and everyone compatible?
We got a 2.5 gallon tank for the kids (lightly planted with heater and filter) and a 10 gallon (moderately planted with heater and filter) for us at Christmas. We are first time aquarium/fish owners. We had two deaths the first week (a molly and a swordtail), but for the last 4 weeks everyone has been healthy. My tank has finally cycled, ammonia and nitrates are zero although I do have some nitrates still (but dropping).
We have given away or taken back a few fish that were not compatible (like our pictus cat who ate one of our shrimp and chased smaller fish around).
In our 2.5 gallon tank we have: 1 male dwarf gourami, two ghost shrimp, one golden mystery snail.
In our 10 gallon tank we have: 1 male dwarf gourami, 1 male silver dollar (these two are buddies and spend all their time together), three cardinal tetras, three rummynose tetras, 2 gold mystery snails, 1 bamboo shrimp, 1 vampire shrimp.
I know the silver dollar will eventually need a bigger tank but we really like him a lot. Other than that, does it sound like a good mix of fish? I am already looking forward to our next purchase - probably a 30 or 40 gallon tank.
4 AnswersFish1 decade agoPlease help me with @$*%&! home computer network!!!?
Got a new beautiful computer to go with my other computer but we can't get them to share the internet connection longer than about 10 minutes without it crapping out. Right now I've given up and hooked up the old computer again directly.
Both are Windows XP Home Edition, I use Cox Cable (cable modem LAN w/Motorola modem), I have a Linksys Wireless Broadband router, two brand new ethernet cables, just installed Norton Antivirus 2006 on both, otherwise the one computer is brand new with nothing much else on it.
I'd like to share my printer, plus see the files on each computer, plus both use the internet connection. We've tried calling Cox, calling the router tech support, using the Network Troubleshooter with Windows and I'm about to lose my mind. Anyone have any idea what the problem might be and a good step by step website suitable for my needs to help us out?
4 AnswersComputer Networking1 decade agoI got an anti-illegal immigration spam e-Mail and it got me thinking...?
As a native California working in the health care field, some of this was not surprising, but some of it was. There is no question that illegal immigration affects social programs and funding and leads to closing of hospitals and rising medical and insurance costs.
These links summarize a lot of the problems contained in this e-mail. I welcome any comment but I am looking for intelligent and thoughtful comments please.

I found some of the info countered on Snopes.com, some things were verified, some disproved, some still in questionl
12 AnswersImmigration1 decade agoFigures of speech based on real feelings? What causes the physical symptoms?
What are some figures of speech based on real feelings? I thought of three: blood boiling, lump in my throat and heartache.
When you say, "My blood is boiling" you don't actually feel bubbling in the veins but you feel a hot flush, your muscles tighten and constrict, heart pounds. This one is easy to explain - I think the rush of anger raises the blood pressure and temperature too, thus the feeling your blood is boiling.
We've all had a lump in our throat when we encounter something sad, touching or heartbreaking. It's hard to swallow - why?
When you say, "My heart aches" sometimes that is true. A deep profound sadness does seem to cause a heavy ache in the breastbone. Every breath seems heavier, your chest can even physically ache where your heart is. Sometimes it feels like it swells up in your chest. It must be some sort of response from the body to emotion, but what are the physiogical explanation for this very real feeling of heartache?

2 AnswersOther - Society & Culture1 decade agoConsidering Masters in Nursing or Masters in Public Health?
I can't believe I'm considering my next degree, I feel like I've been in school forever. I am a fairly new nurse, my interest is maternal child health, ob/gyn surgeries, babies, possibly NICU, L&D. I picture myself helping women and children, would love to work in a clinic setting also, really enjoy teenagers, std clinics, planned parenthood, WIC, that sort of thing.
I had considered the CNM (Nurse Midwife) but lately was pondering just the Masters in Nursing (MSN) or even Masters in Public Health (MPH). Given what I've said about my interests, does anyone in the medical field have any recommendations for me? Not sure which way to go, or which degree goes the farthest.?
5 AnswersHigher Education (University +)1 decade agoMy 2 year old son is a terror. Anyone else?
I'm have two older kids, girls and they were nothing like him. I thought I had this parenting thing down but he gets more horrible every day. My girls are good kids, fairly well behaved. He was such a sweet lovely baby but it started when he started walking and he's gotten worse ever since.
He has had stitches twice - my daughters never have! He gets into everything, wants to take apart or investigate everything, do everything himself, has horrible temper tantrums when thwarted, if something cannot be eaten he must bang it, hit people with it or hide it. He torments his sisters, he likes to squash bugs, he yells loudly and he loves to make a mess. He is on the go from the minute he wakes up in the morning till he finally falls asleep at night (thank God!)
Is he just a typical boy? I love him dearly but please, when do boys like this get more civilized?
