If there is one message I would convey about evolution, it is this: EVOLUTION IS *NOT* ATHEISM. It is the horrible lie that evolution=atheism that leads many good people to (understandably) oppose evolution with every fiber of their being ... to the point of absurdity if they have to. It is not their fault. It is the fault of religious leaders who treat faithful people like children ... demanding a childlike *literal* interpretation of the Bible. This ultimately leads to a wholesale conflict with science, openly hostile contempt for scientists, personal crisis of faith, and vulnerability to trust preachers and politicians over scientists *ON MATTERS OF SCIENCE* ... to ignore the experts if they don't tell you what you *want* to hear ... which leads to a populace completely vulnerable to blatant manipulation. That is why I think the evolution issue is absolutely vital. Creationism is a symptom of a much larger problem.
