  • Should you have a personal design principle?

In Bret Victor's "Inventing on Principle" presentation, which can easily be googled on Vimeo, a proposal is made for personal principles which influence design choices or the launching of projects. Do you believe this is a valid viewpoint? His examples are interesting from a software designer's viewpoint.

  • Probability of event when average occurrence rate is known?

If you know that the Empire State Building is struck by lightning an average of 100 times per year then how can you calculate the probability of it being struck at least once within a specified number of days? Would this answer differ from the situation where you truly knew that exactly 100 random events would definitely occur per year? Thanks!

  • Adobe Dreamweaver CS4 vs. CS5?

I am required to purchase a Dreamweaver bundle for a web design class. Even with the education discount this is quite expensive. The instructor is suggesting we purchase the CS4 version but I'm not so sure it makes sense to buy the previous version when it will just be sinking further into obsolescence by the time I finish the class. Any expert opinions? Thanks!
