I mostly visit here for the skiing section. If you want to IM me, feel free. I like meeting new people, and love talking about skiing, snow, etc. If you spam me, I will hunt you down and wack you with my ski pole. I'm a computer tech: I know how :)
Is Yahoo Mail down? I haven't received an e-mail for a couple days now?
:(
3 AnswersOther - Yahoo Mail1 decade agoOkay, who saw what the ref did after Arizona got the safety against Atlanta?
Did you catch that little reach through crotch grab during the celebration? What was up with that? And I swear he had a smile on his face...
Better watch that guy!! (or was this just my imagination...but my wife agreed...she said...what? Is he gay?)
4 AnswersFootball (American)1 decade agoAnyone have any info on Santiago, Chile?
Hello, I am interested in finding someone that either lives in Santiago, or who has spent some time there, to answer questions, and provide information.
I am planning a trip there next July (to include skiing). I am most interested in finding a reputable place to stay for at least one week, perhaps two. Such as a condo or flat rental. With a location central to the downtown area (shopping, eating, nightlife).
I have found a couple websites that have vacation rentals, but they provide little in the way of information such as specific websites and street locations.
Either post any links or suggestions here, or if you like, email me (or IM) at:
utahpowhound@hotmail.com
Thanks so much in advance,
John
ps: I live in the US.

Far as I know, there are no ties. Is there a strange rule that may result in a tie?
9 AnswersFootball (American)1 decade agoLord of the Rings: I haven't read the books or watched the movies...see details:?
So I have the 3rd movie from the library (Return of the King). Do I need to watch the first two in order for the third one to make sense?
Thanks in advance for your advice!
11 AnswersMovies1 decade agoMy grandpa says that back during JFK's administration, the steel companies planned on jacking the price...
Kennedy threatened to order an audit on all of the companies, and the price hike never happened.
Based on the fact that the CEO's are still pulling in multi-billion dollar compensation funds in the oil industry, would Bush dare to audit them? Gas passed through $115 today.
My grandfather researches the stock market very carefully, and has made a ton of money off of it. He knows a lot about the system, blames congress, etc.
Could a federal audit have any impact on prices?

3 AnswersGovernment1 decade agoWhy the heck won't my computer recognize blank CDs/DVDs when inserted in a Multi optical drive?
If you are going to answer this question...please read these details to see what I have already tried. Thanks in advance.
My system has two optical drives: a DVD ROM drive and a Multi Drive.
The Multi Drive recognizes disks with data on it, but if I put a blank disk in, it plays dumb. If I try to drag and drop files via My Computer, I get the Drive Inaccessible error.
Disk Management shows the DVD ROM drive and the capacity of the disk, but the Multi Drive shows zip (except that the drive exists...but no capacity, nothing in properties, etc).
It's not the drive itself, as I have interchanged another drive that was sitting around. They both play the same game.
I tried Master/Slave settings, and Cable Select settings. Nothing.
Nothing obvious in BIOS/CMOS either.
Does anybody have any other ideas? This is driving me crazy.
1 AnswerOther - Hardware1 decade agoI'm confused. Why are the Democrats bending to Bush, when Bush absolutely refuses to compromise on ANYTHING?
Bush is vetoing popular, bipartisan legislation.
Why should the Democrats bend for Bush's budget, where essential services for the AMERICAN people are cut in favor of war and corporations? Are they truly spineless?
I say if Bush won't compromise, then don't send him anything. Am I grossly wrong on this?
Heck, remember when the Republicans lost the majority a couple years ago? He DARED the democrats: if you don't support the war, you control the money.
That was a dare. Make the idiot eat his words. Yeah, I personally think Bush is the most incompetent president to ever be elected (twice). This is a true testament to failing schools if this is the best that American voters can come up with.
8 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoIf you don't have any unpartitioned space on the C drive, is it basically impossible to add partitions then?
Windows XP, dynamic disks (or basic)...either way.
Do you have to reformat the drive from the get go?
I have played around in disk management, as well as with 3rd party partitioning software...and the results lead me to think that you have to format the drive from the beginning so that it has unpartitioned space.
Am I right, or wrong? If I'm wrong, what's the procedure?
3 AnswersOther - Computers1 decade agoFiber optic connection question?
We are switching from DSL to fiber optic service. The service claims 50 Mbps connection speeds.
I am purchasing a wireless router to accommodate my laptops.
Will a 10/100 router do, or should I go ahead with a 10/100/1000 router?
Obviously option 1 should work...but will I get better performance with the gig?
Also, will the provider supply a modem to convert the fiber optic to Ethernet?
2 AnswersComputer Networking1 decade agoI noticed that Iran's president can speak English fairly well. Can Bush speak Arabic?
I know, not a very intellectual question, but I'm just curious. Can Bush speak a second language? Maybe Spanish?
Additional question: can Iran's president speak English more fluently than Bush, or less?
In truth, I refuse to listen to either one speak. They are both full of it.
23 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoWould anyone be willing to march on DC when Bush vetoes CHIP spending?
That has to be the last straw.
The man can spend billions upon billions, adding up to trillions in Iraq, but he wants to veto health care for poor kids (including my kids - I'm a teacher...my paycheck doesn't allow enough money to cover their health care).
What will it take for the people of this country to rise up in arms?
6 AnswersGovernment1 decade agoHoly Cow....serious laptop keyboard question!?
This is not my laptop...but the person's kid spilled soda or something on it, and the keyboard doesn't work. I took it off and sprayed it with warm water, then blew it out with compressed air. Still didn't work.
I disabled the onboard keyboard, and plugged in a USB keyboard. That didn't work either.
Might the problem be something else besides the keyboard?
EVERYTHING else works. Touch pad, connecting to the internet, video, everything. Except the keyboard.
Any ideas?
2 AnswersLaptops & Notebooks1 decade agoWhy is Bush upset about MoveOn.org? He didn't exactly step to the plate to criticize the Swift Boat Veterans..

Just curious. If he wants dems to protest MoveOn.org, shouldn't he have protested the Swift Boat Veterans at the time?
25 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoWhat does it mean to be fiscally conservative?
The last three conservative presidents have run up 70% of the national debt (two Bush's and a Reagan).
"Fiscal conservatism is a political phrase term used in the United States to attack government spending and advocate instead lower spending and a lower federal debt..." (source: wiki)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fiscal_conservatism
Does it just not work...or was it implemented in the wrong way?
4 AnswersGovernment1 decade agoI dual-boot XP-home and Ubuntu on my C drive. Can I install XP-Pro on a D drive?
Any tricks I need to be aware of? I have a blank D drive, and an XP-Pro full install disk (with the key).
Specifically, how would I be able to boot into XP-Pro, if the normal boot process points to the active partition on the C drive?
Thanks!
4 AnswersOther - Computers1 decade agoRAID 1. Can you help?
Ok, I was doing a practice lab that involved setting up RAID 1...and it wasn't working.
First, I set up dynamic disks. Then went to computer management and right-clicked the unallocated space, and chose to create a volume.
In the box that pops up, I got "Simple Volume", and the other choices were grayed out...including the choice I needed, which was "Mirrored Volume".
I tried many different things, including formatting simple volumes of equal sizes.
No matter what, I could never get the option to create a Mirrored Volume.
Any ideas?
This was a lab computer, ghosted with Win Server 2003, with about 3 GB or so default for the primary partition, of which I can choose whatever I want for unallocated space.
1 AnswerSoftware1 decade agoWhat are your thoughts about people who drive while texting? What if an innocent person dies as a result?
http://www.sltrib.com/ci_6656134
Is one year jail time adequate punishment for ending two innocent lives while DWT'ing?
I don't think so. An example needs to be set here. And he knew he was wrong...he denied using his cell phone when first interviewed.
11 AnswersLaw Enforcement & Police1 decade agoGrr, a little help with a probability question please?
40 blue, 40 red, 20 green. 60 of these are large. What's the probability of choosing 3 large, blue, without replacement?
I can do this if there aren't large and small. If they are all the same size, the answer is 6.1% chance for 3 blue.
How do you factor in the 60 large?
Thanks!
