  • Have my 1 DAY old New Figure skates been ruined!!?

I purchased my first pair of New Riedell Womens size 8 figure skates today. Upon suggestion from the Pro-Shop worker at my local Ice Skating rink I was advised that I did NOT need Blade Soakers (terry cloth) only Blade Guards (hard plastic). After skating I dried the blades and place the Guards on the blades as instructed. I ran a few hours of errands after skating.

I have looked online (here on Yahoo answers and other skating websites) and to my astonishment I did need Soakers. I IMMEDIATELY removed the Guards and not to my surprise there WAS the tiniest amount of rust/discoloration on my blades. The amount is about the size of a medium point pall point pen (2-4 spots on each the Left and Right foot blades).

I would like to know have I ruined my brand new figure skating blades?

I will be skating again tomorrow and I will purchase the required Soakers and use them to "wick away" the condensation that forms on my blades once they have been throughly dried. I will remove to Soakers once I arrive home and allow the boots to throughly air dry.

Thank you in advance for your help. I was relying on the knowledge of the pro-shop worker at my local rink. This is only my 3rd time ice skating, tomorrow will be the 4th. I am still learning. Please no harsh criticism. I am currently enrolled in basic skill classes. =)
