I was invited to spend a week with my pal in North America. He was to take a week off work and he, myself and my wife were to have sightseeing days out together. Unfortunately, on the day we arrived, he was called into work because of some emergency. My wife just sat about reading and I spent my days pottering around in the garden. One day, I found my pals little BB gun and was taking shots at a few old cans. I had just loaded the gun when my wife suggested we take a walk into the nearby woods.

I put the loaded pistol in my top pocket and off we went. We had only been walking for a half-hour when suddenly, a massive brown bear appeared and was coming toward us. My heart and mind were racing. Just as it was nearly on top of us, I remembered the little loaded BB pistol in my pocket. I pulled it out and said a quick little prayer to God asking that my aim be true. God must have answered my prayer. I took aim and fired and my wife dropped to the floor screaming with a BB lodged firmly in her knee, enabling me to take a brisk walk back to my pal's house. When I told him about my near-death experience, he let me keep the little gun that saved my life. It still hangs on my wall as a reminder of that day. The day I nearly died.
