  • Is the Stock Market a Zero-Sum Game?

    I've heard both:

Yes: "For every buyer at a price, there is a seller."

No: "If a company has 1000 shares outstanding @ $10/share, and I buy 1 share for $11, I've changed the value of the stock to $11, creating $999 of "value". Similarly, if I then sell that one share for $9, I've only lost $2, but destroyed $999."

    So which is it?

  • Are gravitons and black holes mutually exclusive concepts?

Black holes are objects so massive, that their escape velocity is the speed of light.

A graviton is a particle of gravity which travels at the speed of light.

So how would a graviton escape a black hole, since it travels below its escape velocity?

But if gravity can't escape the black hole, how would space around the hole get warped? Or would the space surrounding the mass be more of a "black cliff", where anything that crossed the Swartzchild radius would enter, but nothing else would even detect the black hole's presence (except for Hawing raditation)?

Something's not making sense here. Hopefully, it's just me.

  • I'm looking for a new car. I know how much I can afford. Where can I find which cars I can get for that?

Most web sites ask me to pick the car, and then provide the price. I'd like find a site that lists ALL the new car models, sorted by price (MSRP).

That way, if I know my budget is for a $20K car, I know what models I should be looking at.

Once I have it narrowed down to one or two models, THEN I can shop for a good price.
