  • How can I evaluate undergraduate Family and Consumer Science programs?

I am in the process of looking into majoring in Family and Consumer Sciences and I was wondering how I would go about evaluating the quality of programs in the US. I know that programs all function under several different names and that there are no comprehensive rankings of FCS programs. I know that aafcs is a good place to start, but I really would like more direction as to discovering a good program for me.

Personally, I’m looking for an FCS program that will provide a good foundation in all areas of FCS. I intend to apply to grad school in a more focused area (but unsure as to what content area), and I’m looking for a general program, I think. My goal is not teaching in a classroom, though I have considered working with 4H or agricultural extension after graduate school.

Any pointers as to some good schools? It is my hope that if anyone has had a good experience with a program, that they will share the name and strengths/weaknesses of said program.

    Thanks a bunch!
