  • This is a "Brain" teaser. You are on a boat, but not a ship.?

The Captain and Navigator have been working for days to reach your destination. Yet no one has ever reached the location before by boat. Only a few of the crew are allowed on deck to check out the view, but it is a historic moment.

After a brief time the Captain orders up a new course, but the navigator points out that there is only one direction he can go. First question is why? Then do you know the Name of the boat. And it's exact location, Lat./Lon. ? Extra points if you know the Captains name.

  • Do You Run The Bilge Blower While Fueling?

In the news recently was a explosion and fire on a 30 ft. boat. There where 6 kids ages 5 to 13 and their parents inboard. There what a thump and explosion and fire. The parents immediately threw the kids overboard and then threw them life jackets. The obsolete "Halon system" extinguished the fire. During an interview after everyone was rescued the owner insisted he "ran the blower continuously" while fueling and when he he attempted to restart his engine. When I heard that, I thought, that's wrong. Is it?

  • Who delayed the effective dates in the Health Care Law to 2013?

At the end of the debates and long battle over health care act, who introduced the amendment to delay the effective dates on some key provisions of the law till 2013, and are the political adds that those not yet in effect are not working disingenuous?

  • The next big idea? Battery charging stations?

To understand the question, you need a little background. Back when Bell telephone controlled the phone system, the phones where/are powered by (low voltage ) electricity from the power grid. More recently the phone service uses "cell towers" and switching stations that use power (a little of it solar). Cell phones are mostly powered by recharging batteries, from power off the grid. I got to thinking, millions (billions?) of watts of electrical power where/are consumed by the land line phone system, and an additional huge number of battery charging systems for cell phones.

In the big power outages in NY a few years ago, several million phones would not work! No power! The cells would work, but the cell towers and switching stations where down, except in rare cases where backup generators where working.

So my question is: If we changed the entire phone network to be solar powered. Quickly phasing out traditional land lines in most cases, and using solar/to charge the batteries powering most phones, cell towers, and switching stations, what would be the best, most economically feasible way to do that?

  • Are you surprised at the lack knowledge and understanding of the science concerning the Sinking of the Titanic?

There are frequent Questions on Yahoo Answers regarding the Titanic. I find it most incredible that there are so many participants that have so little knowledge of the History of the Titanic and even more so the basic dearth of any concept of just what it means to having sunk to the bottom of the Atlantic at more than 13,000 feet. One person believed the Titanic is "over 200 years old". Another suggested "we build a Plastic box over it" I'm guessing like the National Aquarium. Even more startling is the suggestion by the man who found her in 1985, that he as applied for permission to "paint" her to keep her from further deterioration. He even suggest "to many tourist" are damaging her. Ignoring the fact that there are only 7 deep submersibles in the world.

There have been questions about "building a Titanic II", making an exact duplicate. One person thinks it would only cost a "million dollars".

Has our educational system failed to such an extent that even Robert Ballard thinks we can paint a ship at a depth of 13,000+ feet.

Are you surprised or like me just shocked?

  • Best Computer Program Format for rewriting paperback novel?

Several years ago I started a novel on a typewriter. I've now got some time to finish it, and I want to do it on my computer. I have Microsoft Office 2010, and Open Office from Sun Microsystems. I'm not sure that their formatting is the best for my work. I'm thinking of Paperback. Is there a particular format that works well for this, so I can see what the finished product would look like?

  • WHAT ARE THE POSSIBLE CAUSES FOR VERY SLOW PERFORMANCE WHEN I FIRST TURN ON MY COMPUTER?

I'm running Vista home edition on a Toshiba 165? satellite computer. My internet connection is Clear wireless. When I first turn on the computer I go through 2 password procedures........then when I open my Windows Internet Explorer. 8.....it takes 3 to 5 min. to open my home page.......Yahoo. But, then it's very slow for several more minutes, taking as much as 5 min to open my mail.......after 20 min or so, it suddenly starts to work more normally, moving quickly to new tabs or pages...... This is relatively new, in the last 2-3 days.

I've run a virus scan and checked other areas but I don't know how to find what's slowing this down so much. Where do I look.

  • Fuel Filter "micron" information?

My owners manual has little information on the actual fuel filter that was installed on the boat in 2005. I've noted that the E-10 fuel has been causing problems on EFI engines like mine. I've been trying to find out if the filter I'm using has a "10 micron" element or a "21" micron element, and which one I should be using. My engines are 5.7L EFI mod 5 "GM" computer controlled Marine Power engines.

Also has anyone any information on using the engine computer information directly to an on-board Garmin C series MFD multifunction Display. or to any other diagnostic tool for that matter. Or, is there a computer program that I can download to my laptop computer that I can plug in to the engine diagnostic port that will give me all the information on my engine? I understand this is the same engine (more or less) that was used in the Corvette for several years.

    Thanks!

  • What is the best software to use if your writing a paperback book?

Some printers and publishing houses like one software over another. Is there one that formats the manuscript that makes it more compatable with this "electronic publishing". How about ease of use. I have VISTA and I don't like it.
