  • What was the family structure in Paleolithic and Neolithic Europe?

And what s the evidence that that s the way it was? I know Marija Gimbutas and Ralph Metzner say that Neolithic Europeans were avuncular - that siblings remained together throughout life and brothers helped to raise their sister s children. What is the evidence for that?

  • Is it legal to refuse to work for people of protected demographics?

I've been wondering this for a long time. I know it's illegal to refuse to employ somebody on the basis of their being part of a protected demographic (sex, race, religion, sexuality, marital status), but is it legal to refuse to be employed by somebody on such a basis? Say you're a contract worker - could a massage therapist serve only women, or an African American plumber have only African American clients, for example? Or would they be setting themselves up for a lawsuit?

  • Can you speak ASL in a professional setting without being a licensed interpreter?

I know any answers to this question would be provided for informational purposes only and would not be intended as legal advice.

I am a midwife, and I speak American Sign Language, but I am not a licensed sign language interpreter. I know it would not be legal for me to interpret between an English speaker and a Deaf client, but what I m wondering is, if I had a Deaf patient, would I be allowed to speak to her in ASL? Since we would both just be speaking in ASL and no English interpreting would be involved, is that okay? My state defines interpreting as "any form of facilitating communication in a visual form." Is just talking to somebody "facilitating communication"?

  • How are sterile cups sterilized?

Does it vary by manufacturer? Are they treated with a chemical solution, or irradiated, or made in a sterile environment? Or some other way?
