Wireless G Router connection speed loss?

I have a Linksys wireless G router hooked up to my Sprint DSL 1.5 mbps connection. When I connect to it with my Dell 700m with centrino, I notice that the connection speed starts at 54 mbps, but eventually drops all the way down to 1 mbps while I am connected, even though the signal strength is quite good. Also, when I use an IRC chat client, there are often very long delays before the chat info is recieved. Any idea on a cause and/or solution to this problem?

in the advanced setting of your wireless settings you can change the way your card connects. If you want distance or quality.

Right cick your wireless connection (in the bottom right corner)-->Status-->Properties-->Configure-->Advanced-->Roaming Decision-->Then you can change it to Optimize bandwith (54 mbps, or as high as possible) or optimize distance.

Its deep in there, but it can come in handy when trying to get a better or faster connection.

you're continually more desirable suited off with a stressed (Ethernet) connection, they're swifter. I merely were given a sparkling instantaneous router from my internet service, i became dropping my instantaneous connection each few hours. This has occurred to myself numerous time over the finest decade. instantaneous routers do unusual element at the same time as they're starting off to fail, particularly than merely provide up operating.

Could be a number of things. Range, 2.4ghz phone, more routers on the same channel (usually 11 I switched to 6).I recommend checking out the forums on this site.
