Recommendation for a "sport" road bike that I can use for bike commuting?

I currently have a 15 year old mountain bike (i.e. heavy) with a rack and some 1.5" road slicks on it I'm using for commuting (16 mi round trip on suburban streets with several stoplights). I'm looking for an upgrade.

I went out to a few shops and I think I've narrowed it down to a more upright road bike. Some models I'm looking at include the Specialized Sequoia and the Trek Pilot.

I realize that a bike choice is very much personal preference, so I'm not looking for the one right answer. I'd like pointers to more info, and also if folks have pros or cons based on experience, let me know that as well.

As a longtime Trek OCLV rider, I'd suggest the Pilot. I find the aluminum or titanium has a harsher ride and the OCLV does a great job dampening road vibrations. Newer frames like the Pilot also feel far less wooden than older carbon frames. Regardless of what you buy, I'd also recommend the Bontrager Buzz-Kills which are bar end plugs with harmonic dampers built in... they really do work by killing road vibration. Best $10-$15 you'll ever spend on a bike.
