You take care of them for 12 yrs and you are cool and fun but "over night" you are an imbecile who can not dress or even talk properly anymore.
I called my mom to tell her sorry and I love her! You should too.
I have to add that I have a 20 year old and a grandson by her and she has come around but the 4 teenagers I still have are driving me batty! Thanks fo rhte answers!

Teeenagers bodies aren't the only thing that changes... we are living in a century with new things, ideas, and so much more. They have an urge to explore and be independent... then when you step in to take the responsible authority you're suppose to... they flip!... When you're a child you depend on your parents... you feel like you don't want to grow up... then the word "teen" steps in and the idea that they're somewhat of an adult kicks in. The feeling about your parents changes slowly over time... but when they're finally an adult and have sense they realize evrything you were doing... why you told em' to get off the phone they were on for 5hrs and why to read instead of watch T.V. then it all comes together! Give it time

I think it was Mark Twain who said when I was 17 my dad was the dumbest man on the face of the earth and when I was 21 I realized that my father gained alot of knowledge in 5 years. It has been since the dawn of time since parents have become uncool when their kids have hit puberty. The best thing to do is give the child space, she is trying to figure out where she fits. And try not to embarrass her ( god forbid to have her admit she has parents.) So the best thing is be there but try to act like a parent around her friends not a big sister. Yes we do become uncool for years and in their late teens and early twenties they come back. They still need their mom. Give her lots of love even when you want to strangle her.

it could be because when I was a pre-teenager i was really confused and there was this big misunderstanding between me n n my parents. It finished n i think they r cool.
It's mainly due to peer pressure. Ur peer tells u that "oh... my parents do this n that stuff.... " n when ur parents don't, u feel like an alien. Or sometimes, when there are over-protective parents.

i am a teenager so i think tht it has to do with us wanting freedom, change, new rights and our parents not letting us have that. also a lot of parents think that when thier kids grow up they should be "cool" this is a very bad idea and teenagers do not like that. if you treat your teenager like an adult then they will probabaly not feel patronized by you.
