Having been under 2 reserve parachutes I would go to my training ... cut away and hit the reserve.
BTW the official advice for failure of a reserve is to tie your shoe-laces together ... it doesn't help but it takes your mind off the problem =8-)

I'd try and enjoy the ride down. If there were ever a time to say "f**k it," it would be right then b/c you're accelerating towards the earth at 9.8seconds/second and you ainnn't stoppin'.
I might belt out the lyrics to "Isn't It Ironic" as well b/c I will never go skydiving b/c I'm too terrified BUT if I ever did, the defective parachute thing would surely happen to me.
** person before me - so THAT'S the rate of acceleration? cool - haven't taken physics or even thought about pysics in about 10 years.

I would return the parachute, pointing out what was wrong with it and get another parachute. Obviously, this is all still going on while on the ground. Skydiving is something to be approached with the max caution, preplanning, and checking and rechecking of equipment.
SAFETY FIRST!

I've been parachute jumping. Before you jump, you need to have a plan. You need to think about it. If your parachute is partially deployed, you need to access the situation. If it's all fu*ked up, you need to PULL THE RESERVE!!! Keep your head. Stay cool. You'll make it. If you didn't know you'd be ok, you wouldn't have gone jumping in the first place. Thats why I've parachute jumped, but I won't bungy jump. If your bungy cord breaks, you aint got time to say a hail mary!
Praying ain't going to fix your parachute!
