Drink one glass of water, no less than 8 oz, before you eat.

As you are eating, continue to drink water (water is great for your complexion: few products will keep your skin as moisturized as water).

Try to eat slowly, which will give the digestion sensors in your stomach time to signal your brain you are full.

If you eat fresh vegetables with your meal, you will feel even fuller quicker. Broccoli, cauliflower, onions and carrots will really fill you up.

Try having a small serving of whole grains: whole grain bread (not wheat bread) will make you feel full also. Steel cut oats, whole wheat pasta, and wild rice are examples of foods that your stomach has to digest slowly, because it needs to pull the nutrients/micronutrients out of it.

Also, don't be distracted when you eat. Reading, watching television/movies, listening to music are all comforting things to do when we eat (actually, eating is a form of comfort also), but, we don't pay attention to how much we eat. You can be so distracted that even when your stomach is telling you that it's full, you don't pay attention. Being distracted when eating is one of the biggest problems people have when trying to control their appetites.

After a well sized meal you should automatically feel pretty full. The trick would be to have a glass of water before you eat and eat slowly. takes 20 minutes for your brain to register your stomach is full. so take your time eating, put the fork down once in a while.

Afairly recent development or at least new to me but it should strike a chord in some people is this.Dont make your food to exciting as the better the flavours the more likely you are to keep eating. The example that comes to mind is how many slices of toast can you eat?I eat brown organic and after two I am struggling and Ive never had four except 23 years ago when a friend of mine fed me on toast at the weekend. From the point of mild starvation I would eat 8-10 slices. As they say in Cockney slang if I ate to much of it Id be brown bread

Actually, you would not have to... If you ate until your stomach is full, your body knows that already and so you would not have to trick it.

eat slowly. very slowly

it takes up to 30 minutes to your brain to "understand" you ate enough.

so you'll feel like starving even if you your stomach is full !
