A cap is selection to represent your country from the older tradition of giving a 'ceremonial' or trophy cap to selected players.

A cap is the term they use in Soccer(or Football) to represent the number of games the player has played. So, for instance, Mia Hamm had 239 caps as of Sep. 19, 2003(sorry I could'nt get a more recent number). Anyways, that's what caps are.

well buddy .. hm lets see .. people are trying to make soccer a big sport here .. but about 80% of the population thinks like you thats why it will never be as big .. you're a idiot tho .. im from Europe believe it or not .. i play all sports im a athlete .. i've played football .. a wide receiver and with all those pads never have i felt that much pain .. yeah the practices were hard but not impossible and as for basically i played outfield and OMG .. how is this a sport .. i played for a team and quit becuase of how bored i get .. catching a ball is and throwing is nothing .. only hard thing is the pitching and if you improve hand eye corddnation it's easy to hit .. as for soccer .. its so much harder .. you're running up and down the feild .. you need to think .. positioning and if some one comes and tackles you while you;re running you go flying hitting the ground .. standing up with bruises .. its hard .. when you've been running and some one tackles you .. its not a pussy tackle .. also soccer players are always pushing fighting for the ball .. you;re always getting hit .. I'd like to see you play soccer with someone who knows what their doing and you will see .. especially me ill knock you down and you won't get up .. so play the sport before you say something you pussy .. baseball .. lmao .. yeah thats a sport .. lets go play some catch for 3 hours cuz i mean you know thats so hard

It's a cap (hat) you are presented with each time you represent your country at soccer.
