They are territorial. Not much you can do.
Add more feeders.

Humming birds are very territorial. They fighting is all over the patch of land that contains their limited food sources of nectar feeders and flowers. Even males and females will fight over these limited resources. (I really enjoy those little guys, too.)

It may be because of seasonal changes in which they have not eaten or fed for a while, so they are pretty hungry and see competition. OR, it may be the fact that they don't see enough spaces to feed so they fight for them.
Then again, they may be practicing for wrestling...you decide.

I dont know the scientific reason but I do know that they are aggressive little suckers !! I've seen them go after regular size birds,bumble bees and wasp !! They are fearsome little things !!! I love them too !
