What's wrong with iDrive?
All of the car magazines rag on iDrive. For owners with it, tell me SPECIFICALLY what's annoying with it.
I'm probably going to buy a new BMW next year so I'd like to know what are the bad points.

If you are willing to read, learn, and have patience......absolutely nothing. You will find that it can become an extension of your hand, can be quite easy to use, and gives you vast amounts of flexibility without bombarding you with a dash full of buttons.
However, if you want something that is immediately intuitive and easy to use, iDrive is not for you.
Keep in mind, those magazines generally don't keep vehicles for very long. Their first impression becomes what they write. The few magazines who do keep "long term" BMW test cars generally warm up to the idea of iDrive. (but they can't lose face by admitting that their first impression was wrong, can they?) ;-)

The problem with iDrive is that it is a menu based system. You have to access several menus to get to the function you want to change. Other cars, like the Lexus GS300 and 430, have solved this problem by putting controls for several functions on a drop-down panel that folds out of the way when not in use. The Lexus has just as many features, but it's much easier and safer to use.

There is nothing wrong with it. I have a 2006 BMW 760I and it is a great system. But when you first start using it, it is really hard.

Nothing. It's simply a rather complex computer system that most people don't want to bother to learn how to use effectively. (The program is not immediately intuitive.)
Spend enough time with it, and it becomes familiar, and even advantageous.
...At least, that's what I've heard. :)
