Is LA great for New Year??

I would like to go to LA for Christmas and New year break. Is it a great place to be at this time of the year in terms of weather and social life? Also I heard that La is basically a giant expressway. In what parts of Cali should I stay (since I do not drive) that will enable me to enjoy the beach, shopping and nighlife? Thanks guys!

Los Angeles downtown blows. Nothing to do on New Year's Eve. You need to determine if you want to be at a club, restaurant or somewhere like that and book a reservation. Last year I went to the Improv and had a decent time.

If you don't drive, you need to find the location you want to party at and maybe rent a limo or hire a taxi.

If you want a safe and fun place, Disneyland has a great party, but that's in Orange County, not LA. Their hotel breaks up into mini clubs and you can choose between pop, country and oldies to dance to.

During Christmas, the malls have great decorations and try to make it seem "wintery". The Grove off Fairfax does a great job and there's the famous farmer's market near the CBS studios too.

You might think of Pasadena too for New Years. They have the Rose Parade, and a lot of folks and families camp out on the street the night before in Old Town Pasadena. There are a lot of bars up and down the street for celebrating, and if you're really hard core, you too can camp out and watch the rose parade come through the next morning.
But if you decide to stay in Hollywood/LA (which is about 40 minutes away), make sure to get there early for parking!

All bias aside, la Liga might win. Spanish nationwide crew + Messi, Ronaldo, Dani Alves and Di Maria. No offense to the EPL or something yet la Liga might win. la Liga's crew would be especially lots merely Barca + genuine Madrid.
