Stand on your head when you're suposed to get it and the blood will go up. =)
Lol..but really- tampons are wonderful for if you want to swim and such. Much better than a bulky pad.
And if you really want to stop it and you are on birth control pills, don't take the sugar pack, go right to the next pack and your period might be delayed, I say might because some people still get it.
But I wouldn't recommend doing that.

if you are currently on the BC pill, you can skip the 'inert' pills (or 'sugar' pills - that contain no hormones and allow your period to start) and continue on the the first active pill of your next pack. This will most likely cause you to skip your period - which is perfectly healthy. doctors are now saying it's actually better to have 3-4 periods a year as opposed to 12.
One warning though - I have tried this (my wedding!) and it tends to take several cycles before your body has adjusted, so I ended up with a 16 day long period right before my wedding (I skipped my 'scheduled' period but a week later started bleeding again). I finally asked my doctor what to do and she said to stop, allow the period to finish and start a new pack. Just keep in mind that your body would take a while to adjust if you did try this.
If you're NOT on the pill, there's no real way to suppress your period unless you started the pill or depo shots now.

The one thing that always shortens my period (from 7 days to 3 or 4) is EXERCISE. Whether it's high school soccer or just working out 10 hours a week in the college fitness center or swimming at home, exercise makes my periods both shorter and less painful. :)

Try having some wild sex that makes my cramps stop and the bleeding ends sooner. I know it's disgusting but it works for some. Make sure you're on a dark towel so you don't stain the sheets, in the shower is best though.

Take a shower and use the shower massager to bring you to orgasm. Do this 2 times a day and you will shorten your period by at least 1 day.
