Brands means nothing. It is not the brand that makes a computer superior. It is the specs. Learn to read them and then you can make a better decision. Most important is the processor speed and if it is 64 bit and double.
You want a 300 MGH chip and 1 or 2 gigs of memory. Some people think AMD is better than Intel, but they both are very good. As for brands, I would choose Dell, but that is only for those who understand specs. Otherwise, I would choose HP, because there specs are usually good. Make sure the computer is Vista
compatible, or I would not buy it.

Well to tell you the truth...HP & Compaq: they are both run by HP, HP being the stronger of the two.. Now for the three remaining choices i would be how much money you are willing to spend as dell sucks unless your buying a high end computer. HP uses recycled components in their cheap models so also buy high end, as for Gateway i am not sure on them but i do know eMachines is run by them also. But which ever you choose you have to go high end models...or upgrade after you buy

Gateway changed into once on the acceptable, even above Dell. They grew to develop into (and nonetheless are) overpriced for what you get. Dell has continuously been at or close to the acceptable for a lengthy time period, so that you won't be able to bypass incorrect there. It truly surely relies upon on what you go with the computing gadget for. in case you desire a only accurate gaming gadget, get an Alienware. in case you go with somthing only for information superhighway surfing and somewhat abode workplace stuff, get an HP. in case you go with some thing only for all- round consumer-friendly overall performance, get a Dell. i for my section construct my own pcs. I surely have 5 that are engaged on the prompt, notwithstanding the only one no longer equipped by using me is a Dell. Gateway is superb, yet you'll get a similar component for much less $$$ with a Dell. chuffed paying for! Oh yeah, stay faraway from eMachines in any respect expenditures!!

Like someone else said, it's not the company per-se, but more what they're putting in their boxes. Right now, Dell has some cheap dual cores from Intel and that should suit anyone for a while if you have to buy one before the next cores come out in the next few months. I don't have a preference over one or the other, but as long as you can get something where you can upgrade the graphics with a PCI-E and possibly get some SATA support, get the most bang for your buck.
