Because wikipedia has most of the world's information contained within it.

One of the options when you answer a question is to search Wikipedia for the answer. This is one reason people often cite it. Another is just that it's a very useful and popular resource, so many people will either find or check their answers at Wikipedia before adding them to Yahoo Answers.

When we answer questions, they suggest that we research our answer with Wikipedia. Interestingly enough, if you read Wikipedia's article on Yahoo! Answers, there is no mention that you can use the site.
