Now mind you this is Pipino in the early 80's and De La Hoya During the Hernandez time frame, both at their very best. I'd have to with Pipino.

I believe you're right on, in saying "If De La Hoya were to stay inside and trade with Cuevas he get stopped" Poor Pipino was never the same ater the Hearns fight. It's great to hear from guys like you and Brent that know a thing or two about the fight game, and I shouldn't forget to mention Jane. Well done sir.

Great fight! I actually think this fight would be a slugfest. Both men were known for their educated left hands(they had explosive left hooks). Cuevas did reign over the welterweight division for close to 4 years and 11 successful title defenses. I think De La Hoya would win a unanimous decision because of his experience against better competition. This would definitely be a great fight, and a possible rematch.

Very good question sir! Until he ran into Thomas Hearns Cuevas was knocking everybody out and was known to have a sturdy chin. De La Hoya has always posessed outstanding ring skills and has a good punch although if he stood toe to toe with Cuevas I believe he would lose. I believe an aggressive Cuevas would come in on De LaHoya who with faster hands would land rapid combinations. Cuevas from time to time would rattle De La Hoya with hard left hooks but De La Hoya would tie him up and keep him off of him with jabs and win a close decision.
