I have been studying the Quran lately... I would just like to get Non-Muslims opinions about what they think of this verse.
"If a man find a damsel that is a virgin, which is not betrothed, and lay hold on her, and lie with (rape)her, and they be found; Then the man that lay with her shall give unto the damsel's father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife; because he hath humbled her, he may not put her away all his days."

I know this is from the Bible. I was just trying to see how many Christians would bash their own holy book. I thought more would play along...but you busted me too quick :)
And it does mean rape. Read the context it is in. Deuteronomy chapter 22.

In the quaran women are treated like pigs. It was a reference to slavery for women. Sick stuff!
Why lie about the verse? Its from the Holy Bible, not Qur'an
1 Dt.22:28 If a man find a damsel that is a virgin, which is not betrothed, and lay hold on her, and lie with her, and they be found; 29 Then the man that lay with her shall give unto the damsel’s father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife; because he hath humbled her, he may not put her away all his days.
I guess you did what you set out to do....trip up Christians who haven't read their Bibles.
This is like the verses in the Holy Bible. Most men in the Old Testament lay with the women first, then they married them. If they lay with her and didn't take her in marriage, then he owed the father of the woman 50 shekels, which is a great amount of money! So they married them instead! NOT rape, and they didn't have to be found, the woman would testify! Study the last part of the Quran while you're at it and discover how Muhammed tells you to destroy anyone who is not of Islam. Read the contradictions and then come back and tell us how you never want to read what they say again! God Bless.
I think it must be something that was written a very long time ago. Most ancient religions do have some historical passages which show the people making laws to civilize and govern themselves.
There are similar passages in the Christian Holy Bible, listing laws which were man-made, not from God. Their purpose was to show what a mess people could make of things when they added to or subtracted from the laws God gave them.
The new covenant made by Christ cancelled out pretty much everything but the Ten Commandments and the Greatest Commandment by Christ: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."
This is also in the Old Testament. It's referring to a time period when marriage for women was often a matter of life and death, eating or not eating. If a woman had been raped, she wouldn't have been as likely to marry afterward. This is a law that would deter men from rape with the consequences of having to take care of that woman for the rest of his life. It's not excusing rape, it's similar to life imprisonment in our time. If you murder someone you face life in prison. Just because a punishment has been set in stone doesn't mean that the crime is lessoned.
