"Open" to "In Voting" How long does it take?

I know that approximately 4 hours after a question is asked, the asker of the question can choose a best answer. However, if the asker does not choose a best anser, how long does it take for the "open" question to enter the "in voting" status? How long are questions in the "in voting" status before voting closes and a "best answer" is choosen?

After the expire date on the question is over. 3 days is on every question but you can extend it to 7 days and then it will go into voting.

Unless the time is extended by the questioner, I believe that a question goes to vote after 7 days (it may have been reduced to 5, however). It will continue in Voting for a day or until there is a definite majority vote.

Don't forget that if you chose a Best Answer, you will get 3 points. If you want the community to chose a Best Answer, you can chose to put the question to voting before the week is up.

A question can be open for four days before it becomes "In voting" unless you choose to extend the time to accept answers. Voting is initially 24 hours, with the answer with the most votes after that time period, becoming the best answer. If there is answer with the most votes, voting is extended by 12 hours, until there is a leader. Questions can be in voting for weeks until someone votes and gives one answer a lead.
