Have indoor/outdoor dogs, so don't want to hurt them. Currently have gluetraps, and the old-fashioned snap closed wood traps. Any better mousetraps, or poison that is nonlethal to dogs? We have a clean house, but live on acreage, so field mice come in with onset of colder, wet weather. Thanks.

There is all kinds of practical information available on the internet. A Yahoo search for "mouse control" (include the quotation marks in the search box) yields 560,000 results. hello I unfortunately had the same problem I had mice really bad but they are very smart it seems traps didn't work and the poison they sell doesn't kill them, I was trying everything but there is only thing that has worked and it really worked well no more mice I mean like after two days. I got a cat and that is what I would tell you to do you would of course have to get a cat that is OK with dogs and it is better to adopt a cat from the shelter than the pet store because the ones at the shelter are used to catching mice already. Everyone told me this would work and I didn't believe them but let me tell you it does work, you will be shocked at first the cat will kill them and bring them to you but then the mice start to smell the cat and they leave hope this helps.

The only thing that will work is cats. Get one or two outside cats and give them free access under your house. If your dogs will learn to get along with the cats, this will work.
Also, if you go under your house and find every hole that pipes and wires pass through and stuff them tight with steel wool. Mice will not chew the steel wool. Mice can get through very small gaps.
If you do both of these things, you will almost be mice free.

Until you get all these cats(!), the trouble with the old-fashioned snap traps is that the mouse can trash around and struggle until he's made his way behind/under the refrigerator. If you cant' get him out for awhile, you can't imagine the smell!

This is sooooo easy. Two CATS. Two just to keep one another company, and make sure they are fixed. You don't want forty five cats running around next year. Cats won't hurt the dogs, and cats are lovely creatures that can live in the barn. They will have a ball chasing all of those mice! CATS....CATS.....CATS.....
