There were 9 episodes in the first season - it ended with Addison showing up in Seattle. In Australia it was kinda weird because we went straight from season 1 to season 2 without a break, but we only saw about 5 or 6 episodes of the second season before the summer.
No idea about the DVD release...sorry. The US did just get season 2 (Sept 12), so I'd hope we wouldn't be too far behind.
