Have you check the Firefox options? There is a option call "Load Images" under "Content". If it is off, then it won't load images.

Why would you want to email the person above me to receive Opera? It sounds suspicious and a little scary.
If you want to try Opera, just download it.

As far as Firefox goes
Try going to Options, tools, then click on the content tab, then play around with the part that says load images. If that doesn't work, then try reinstalling it.
I've never had a problem with Firefox, I find it interesting that people have problems with it.
Good luck

Remember that you need a plug-in to view many picture types -- I use AlternaTIFF myself because it handles the US Patent Office files the best.
Look for the little "Plug-In Required" message along the bar just above the main viewing window.
Also, you may have blocked some of the servers on which the images are hosted. Check the Tools:Options:Content menus

In windows - Tools - Options -
In Linux - Edit - Preferences - Options
Check your image viewing settings. Wipe any exceptions
After that I would guess that third party "security" software is not playing nicely with Firefox.
