Is dried chipotle chilies supposed to look light-brown?

I bought them from a mexican supermarket.

Yes, there are two kinds of dried chipotles. One of them is light brown and the other is dark brownish-red. They're both equally authentic, just different. There is a special name for the brown chipotles (they're chipotles with some kind of special adjective attached) but I do not recall what the name is. I think I found the special name for those brown ones in one of Rick Bayless's Mexican cookbooks.

Some of them are smoked, that´s why they often look more or less brownish...

Beware... the pulp of the chipotles will never be light brown, only the skin (very thin) some times, and it will look as if it had scars or little wrinkles.

Some of the hottest chilies in Mexico are light yellow or light orange when they are fresh so pay attention to the color of the pulp before using.

Chipotles are always dried, if not they are jalepenos. And yes thats what color they are supposed to be.

yes, some of them are....usually if they are really dry.

Reconstitute them in boiling water for 15 minutes then let them sit, covered for 15 more.
