Unfortunately they cannot be prevented. Earthquakes are tectonic occurrences that happened typically in the West of a continent, like here in the US they happen in California all the way up to Washington, or West Africa, etc. The reason they can't be prevented is that because the continents and ground bodies are floating plaques that have a certain stability with the core of the Earth. When there's a little bit of heat in the atmosphere they create a pressure that causes that side of the ground shake a little bit. It is also common to have seismic areas around volcanoes (within about 1500-2000 miles).
Hope this helps :)

At the moment? it can't. It depends how the earthquake were caused if you want a theoretical methord. There would have to be some way of preventing two plates from rubbing together or building up their 'energy' and snapping with the shaking and the destruciton and the oyoyoy it hurts.

There's no way. Not unless you can remove the fault lines.
The area I live in, sits on a fault line. It's impossible to remove a fault line,so earthquakes can't be prevented. No way, No how.

they can't be prevented as yet but precautions can be taken from the before itself. For example short buildings can be built in areas which are more prone to earthquakes
