Why Windows XP professional version 2002 does not support Internet Explorer 7?

I am having Windows XP Professional version 2002 i my computer. I had download ie 7 and I tried to install it. But during installation, it said, my operating system does not support ie 7. Why??

I am having 256 mb ram and a 40 gb hardisk and intel pentium III processor. I have enough disc space.

How to rectify the problem?? Am I to download any patch file or something?? please help.

i think, because you don't have service pack 2 integrated. try to install sp2 or upgrade your windows with one with sp2

Have you got Service Pack 2? If not, first download it from the Microsoft Website and then get IE 7.0.
