You can't. The last Windows 98 compatible media player that Microsoft had realeased was Media Player 7.0. This version was released somewhere around 2000-2001. Somewhere that year they have stopped support for Windows 98. But for installation on Media player 7.0, as I remember, we hadd to install Internet explorer 6.0.

The current version of Windows media player is 11 and has much better options than Media player 7.0.

Not sure about Win98. I was able to get Media Player 9 through Windows Update or Microsoft website using WinME.

Try: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/previousversions.aspx

No, Microsoft has terminated its support for Windows 98 and Windows 2000, so you can't download it in the 1st place. If you are going to copy it from a CD, then it may run.
