Why doesn't anyone name their child a NORMAL name?????
What's wrong with John, Richard, Mary, or Ellen?????
Why are they all named after places (Brooklyn, Austin, Paris) or given last names (Preston, Madison, Elliot) as first names??
WTF is WRONG with you people--don't you know your kids will HATE you for those weird names????

Because they think its "cute." It may be cute when the kids in diapers but can you imagine going to a job interview with those names? Or having that name on a grandma? I think the psychologists are going to be raking it in in the future from the hours of therapy these kids are going to need. I also don't think these parents have read the multitude of studies that show children with odd names aren't as successful at life. Honestly, some of these names look like the parents let the cat walk across the keyboard and whatever letters it hit seem to make a name. Teachers already have a difficult enough time, with last names, don't make it harder on them. Likewise, if you need a pronounciation guide, its a bad idea!!
I hate to break this to you, but John, Richard, Mary, and Ellen are the odd names out these days. It's very possible that a child with one of these names would be quite annoyed with mom and dad for choosing a name so strongly identified with earlier generations.
Tell you what: Name your own child Richard, and see if little Dickie grows up to thank you. In the meantime, allow other parents the privilege of naming their own children.
Personally i would hate to be named something that was way too common in the first place, so choosing a DIFFERENT name for my baby is what id rather do. I think those traditional names like, James, Sam, Rebecca, Sarah, John etc.. are boring, and not appealing at all. I dont know why people would want to call there babies something thats so common. Id hate to be the 4th Sarah in the class. Its all about individuality to me, i think a name will be chosen for you for a reason, because if you think about it, nearly everyones name suits them and they live up to that name! I called my son Jordan, and he is such a Jordan. Its hard to describe but it suits him perfectly. I guess that some girls are meant to be Sarah's and those boring kind of names, but these days the times have changed and this generation of kids will be the left out ones with crappy traditional names. Thats just my opinion! =)
Everyone has a choice of what they wanna name thier kids and if people wanna give their kids name with some meaning behind it or maybe something a little unique then whats wrong with that?
If you wanna name your kids Mary, John and Richard then go for and see how much they hate those names as well.
what's "commonplace"? i think of particularly everyone has a various thought as to what it somewhat is. I do agree that some human beings bypass way overboard on their quest for a so called unique call. on the different hand, my call is Ashley, in my graduating classification of 32, there have been 5 human beings. do you recognize how demanding that fluctuate into? We infrequently knew who the teachers have been speaking too! i like not so undemanding names, yet not something too loopy the two. What if your flavor isn't those known names? Do you think of human beings could provide their toddler a recognition they hate in order that others seem at them as "commonplace"?
