How can you tell whether an engine is either a 5.0 or a 5.8?
This is a 89 Ford Econoline 150 conversion van.
The stickers under the hood give data for both.
The stickers on the door frame don't mention engine size.
CC's, CI's, and horsepower on the title and registration are blank.
It is the original motor.
It is fuel injected and that is all the air inlet system says.
I know a 5.0 and a 5.8 share a lot of parts,
I would just like to figure out what it is.

The fireing order should be different between a 5.0 and 5.8

look on the inside of the hood. Open it up and look above the brake cylinder on the hood and there is a white sticker in the left top corner there will be the liters. Also you can look at the VIN and look at the 8th digit starting from the left side count eight over and that number or letter is the engine code. The 5.0 liter is going to be a Vin code of N. A 5.8 will have a Vin code of H. So again look at the VIN number in the drivers outside on the dash. Count eight digits starting from the left to the right and you should have a N or a H.

It is probably a 5.0. The 5.0 and 5.8 are great motors. I have 2 cars with 5.0 motors,and a truck with the 5.8. All have high milage on them,and they still are very smoooth!

if it is in a van it will prolly be a 5.8 check on the block by the intake or the back by the destributer
