Why does everyone set it so no one can e-mail them?

I try to get as many best answers as I can and I don't answer some questions because the question doesn't give enough info to give a correct answer.
Some of them is like a shot in the dark and I will not answer them.
I have e-mailed a couple of people and got nice responses from them after I found out what the problem truely was and was able to help them. I have evn given my phone number to 3 or 4 people so I could explain things better, that needed help and I even got a christmas card from one of them.
I am disabiled from a fall I took, but I worked in construction for over 30 years and know what I am talking about. If I don't, I keep my mouth shut, but there are some people that answer questions and make the answer sound like it is correct when it is fool hardy to attempt what they say.
I was just wondering why you ask a question but close your e-mail out. It is simple enough to spam someone that is bothering you.

Gosh you sound like one of the nicest of all people thanks for writing this question.
Some folks don't understand that they need to make a separate email address to use for such communications. Since so many people have a main address that is their first and last names. They don't want and shouldn't give that out.
The answer is that many people just know that the email address they have should not be given out. They don't take the time or know how to set up another more annonymous one.
Take care and keep those answers coming.
Happy New Year.

I feel the same way. I am handicapped from Osteoarthritis in the severe degenerative stages. I find this very relaxing, I was also in the construction business for 47 years, went to three Universities, got a medical degree, went to war in 'Nam for two tours and, jumped out of planes, this is why I'm sitting here. I have a vast knowledge to share but, like you ?
I've thought about it but, you know with hundreds of "kooks" out there, no disrespect to anyone and apologies if you were hurt, I just don't need a lot of "e's" from strangers. Even though some mean well. I did this with another site and got snowed under. Some wouldn't leave me alone and I had to changed my "e" think about it Pal. Good luck.

I had my email open to responses and have been bombarded with spam ever since. I have closed it because of that experience. I realize this hampers some of the responses to some of my questions but it is already hard enough trying to keep the spam down.

Well, I know that most people mean well, but there are some among us that abusethe system and try to use it to their own ends for profits or scams. To avoid that I signed up to be helpful but also to protect myself and my interests. The last thing I need is for someone to knowingly or unknowingly send me some spyware that will rob me of important information and then use it to clean my bank accounts. I prefer to be as helpful as possible while retaining my privacy and safeguarding my assets.

my e-mail is open .but sometimes when you are reading a question.you don't know if they are really asking a question or are they that stupid eg...[will my hair catch on fire if i run thru a burning house] this shows you that there are a lot of simple minded people out there .at least if you are going to ask something like that then put it in the right category.jokes and riddles!!!
