Have you or someone you know ever been a victim of "gaslighting"?

What happened?

If you're not sure what "gaslighting" means, please look it up before answering. I specifically put my question in the "psychology" category because it references a form of brainwashing & psychological abuse. Here's a link to a good working definition of gaslighting: http://members.aol.com/Relationshop/Definitions/gaslighting.html

My spouse does this to me and it's spooky. I think he's a high functioning boderline personlity and he does stupid stuff and tries to make me out like I'm losing my mind. I acutually think he is losing his.

Thanks for the definition.

I don't think I have been. I say think because as I understand the meaning, this could be rather subtle.

In your opinion, is it possible to be a victim of this and not be aware it is happening? I'm just curious. What makes people "tick" has been of interest to me for years. Probably since I entered my current depression in 1986.

firstly you must have a deep understanding of the individual relationship between the parties involved. this seems to relate to who has a stronger personality,i think great care must firstly be taken before you go waving this kind of charge against anyone. i have never encounter this type of behavior to the level you refer. but seen milder examples,it seem to reach a level then the individual on the receiving end will react and retaliate, the offender normal will back down ending hostility's .

OK, so my first answer was wrong, now I can answer correctly. I have experienced it and it can be very devious and deceptive until you become aware that it is happening, then it becomes blatant and obvious and no longer has power over you.
