Can u file taxes for someone who has died?

My brother died September 23, 2006 he was only 18 yrs old can my parent file his taxes

his next of kin is required to if he had income that year. i even think there's a box to check on the 1040 if that person is currently deceased. my sympathy to you & your family. i know how hard the "technicalities" can be after someone dies. i lost my step-dad 4 years ago & we still get mail for him.

If he was not married and they are his next of kin they should file his taxes. There is a special form for this type of filing. Go to the IRS website, look up the form, download it and them complete. They may have to attach a death certificate with the tax return.

If he made enough money to require a return then the executor of his estate is required to file a return.
