Today my son bought a T shirt at Hot Topic to wear to a school social event tomorrow.The clerk left the security tag on. We have the receipt and could take it back but is there a way to get it off tonight, as his trip starts 10am

pliers, unless it says it has ink in it. a good wire cutter should do it

Most security tags are the same, so the devices used to remove them are the same. If you can't take it back to same store because they are too far away or closed, then take it to a nearby 24 hour store, such as Walmart, K-mart or Target with your receipt and explain. I'm sure they would remove the security tag for you.
