Hitler was elected Chancellor, but he quickly declared himself Fuhrer and eliminated elections and democracy. Hitler had a particular distatain for democracy, considering it weak and decadent. Hitler felt the only form of government that could survive for a thousand years was fascism. So he was Fuhrer, ultimate ruler for life of what he considered the master race, as long as he was its master.
