Christians in Arab countries?

If Islam is all about 'convert or die', then why are there still so many Christian Arabs? These are Coptic Cristians who've been in these countries since before Islam came into being. I would think that if they wanted to kill or convert everyone on the planet, they should have succeeded in their own countries after 1400 years.

Egypt: 10-12 million
Lebanon: 1.5 million
Iraq: 1 million
Syria: 1.2 million
Sudan: 6 million
Saudi Arabia: 1/2 - 1 million Catholics (mostly foreign workers from the Phillipines)

Christians are also in Iran, Jordan, Israel, Turkey, Algeria, and every other Muslim country. Granted, they are being persecuted in most of these countries today, but they've been there alongside Islam for 1400 years. How is that possible if Muslims are commanded by the Qur'an to kill all non-Muslims? What happened to 'spreading Islam by the sword'?

Eight answers, one person has addressed the question asked. Why are any of them still alive after 1400 years of a supposed 'convert or die' policy?

The convert or die thing is the opposite of the truth. Most regions conquered by Muslims remained predominantly Christian or Zoroastrian well into the eighth or ninth centuries. Throughout the medieval period the Muslims were much nicer, smarter and more tolerant than the Christians, for what it's worth. There was even a robust tradition of what would today be called free thought in the Islamic world. To the extent that the "convert or die" thing exists, it is an invention of the Salafis/Wahabis/al qaeda loonies.

To repeat, the "convert or die" thing is a myth.

Yes,there are many Christians in Muslim countries. However, judging a country's treatment of Christians based on how many of them there are is silly.
Over a million Christians were killed in Turkey, with the government still denying that it happened.
Over two million Christians have been killed in Sudan.
In Saudi Arabia, all citizens must be Muslims.
Christians are denied funding for church repairs and programs, whereas Islamic buildings and programs are granted the money.Christians in some of those countries are forbidden from holding governement positions. They are treated badly if they were a Muslim before their conversion, and in some cases are put to death.
Christians in Islamic countries don't have a rosy life at all.

there is not any persecution completed via Muslims interior the Arab international. it incredibly is in comparison to usa the place Muslims would get killed under pressure and now and back murdered. Christians and Muslims interior the Arab international relish an extremely close relationship. And Lebanon even has a Christian president.

But at Chrismas time at least one priest was arrested and jailed for helping to celebrate the holiday in one of those countries.

Can YOU imagine what would happen in England if a Cleric or Imam was arrested during a high holy Islamic period for helping people celebrate it!

That's the difference between and Islamic Nation and a FREE nation!

i completely agree with that because for example in Egypt for every mosque there will be a church next to it in most places and no church can be demolished or can celled and when i visited many Arabian countries i noticed that Christians are treated like Muslims if not better and i know that this happened because in Qurran there is something called the freedom of ware ship. and also i noticed that Muslims celebrate with non-Muslims their feasts and their fasting. Also the most important thing that in many Arabian countries Christians are minsters of education and economics and i think is extreemly difficult for a muslem guy to have even a job in any christian country i say this because i visited arabian countries and see .i advice those who (bla bla) to confirm and to see first then judge
