Can you give five nice, sensible suggestions for a girl's name?
I'm not having a baby, nor will I be having one in the next decade. I just lurk in this forum, and frankly, I'm appalled by the idiotic names you mommies-to-be (and mommy-wannabes) pick for your kids. I hope this list at least prevents one child from being saddled with a stupid name. Here are the rules:
1. No more than 5 girls' names.
2. No links to baby sites unless you pick and list 5 names first. Sites as citation are okay.
3. Suggest names that are a little old fashioned, slightly obscure, but nice and sensible.
4. But don't go all Celtic or Victorian. Examples: Alison? yea. Hazel? nay. Ceindrych? ZOMGWTFBBQ?!?
Ladies (and the few gentlemen who might see this), giving your kid a stupid name borders on child abuse. Prevent parental cruelty. Let's bring back some good ol' names and inspire (or knock some sense into) some parents-to-be.

*thumbs nose* at nay-sayers.
You're a silly lot to get your panties in a twist. No 10 points for you, however, I will report you for not posting an answer to the question. That's a -10 point penalty, y'know.
As for the rest of you, I'm glad to see some good answers. But some of you fell short of the FIVE names mark. C'mon folks. Bring a good name back into fashion.
I see some Mama Bears in the audience tonight. Wow. Defensive, ain't we.
As for "ethnic" names. I'm better at etymology (Asian and European languages) than most people, and as someone with a difficult ethnic name, I do know what the burden is when your name is just so out of context, or outright unpronounceable in the lingua franca.
A few of you though, are simply vain, and it shows. The common "But it's my baby, and I can call it whatever I want to!" Yeah, yeah, sure. Throw your tantrum and stamp your feet. It's a CHILD, not an accessory. In most parts of the world, you'd have the right to name it whatever (except Germany and Spain -- there are laws aginst that sort of thing), so I'm not infringing on anything of yours. But it doesn't make *you* any less frivolous, and doesn't help your kid any.
Now calm down if I made you mad 'cause I'm criticizing you. YOU chose to answer, right? Now take your two points and have a cup of tea.
