any one know how to fix a toliet seat thats hinges are loose?
i hav checked the bolt and screw they are tight it is actually where the hinge connects to the bit connected to the seat and the bit connected to the lid that is loose. There is no screw just metal that cannot be removed or adjusted in any way. Wondering what i can do. I got it new there is no warranty, it is only about 1 month old. I really dont want to buy another one as this one is really nice. Its really annoying as it moves when u sit on it. Any suggestions.
The bolts are screwed on tight, but there is extra space so the seat can move. You need to buy some rubber washers (they look like flat rings), remove nuts, put the washers on the bolts, and then replace the bolts. Some people cut out cardboard rings for the purpose, but they get wet and don't last. I agree, a wiggly toilet seat is very annoying.
Washers, just to show what they look like: http://underbid.com/action/display/item/1061600780/sku/862003.html
it's really simple, you don't need to buy a new toilet seat to fix it. Usually you need a small, and a large flat head screw driver, and a pair of pliers. use the small screw driver to open the cap concealing the screw. there should be two of them at the back of the toilet seat. The cap hinges on the tank side of the seat. then use the large screw driver, and the pliers to tighten the bolt. if that doesn't work to your satisfaction... it should, then it unfortunately needs to be replaced
If you have a toilet seat that shifts from side to side, you’re not alone. Many newer toilet seats are held in place by plastic nuts and bolts, which don’t lock the seat into place as well as metal fasteners. Stick two-sided carpet tape ($5 at home centers) to the bottom of the hinges and they won’t slide around.
To fix a toilet seat whose hinges are lose, try changing the nuts and bolts. but you must use the plastic kind. you can find they at any hardware or Chain store like Wall-mart, Sears, Lowe's, Home depot
