Where's my "Top Contributor" Sign?

Hmmm.. I'm at level 4, and am the second highest answerer in the Rail category... Sooo where would my Top Contributor sign be? Not that its really that important, but once I saw those pop up, I expected to have one, and natta. I see quite a few people who are in the top 10 (but not top) answerers in a category with these. Is there other criteria??

Thank you everyone for your answers. I have a hard time choosing one Best Answer, so I've decided to let it go up for vote. Thanks again all of you.

The more you answer in a particular category, and the more Best Answers you get (not the percentage) the more likely you are to get a "top contributor" badge next to your name, up to 3 categories. Levels, and points have nothing to do with it. I have it for answering in Yahoo 360 and Yahoo Answers categories, neither of which am I on the leaderboard, but I have been answering alot of questions in these categories recently. I do lead the category DIY and I do not have "top contributor" for that category, but I haven't answered much in that one for a while.

My bet and then calculation is you are very, very close! Looking at where I am TC and where I am not, I'd say it is a simple formula of 100 best answers in a sub category gets you there. I am higher on many leader boards than what got me TC.

So, you be the test, and let me know if you hit TC with 100 BA in Rail.

Edit: Okay - there is a bit more to it than that, but I still say 100 BA in the subcategory is a minimum standard. And still sure you will hit TC at 100 rail BA's.

Me too! I'm at level 4, have answered 4,109 questions and have a 9% best answers rating. Yahoo members frequently send me messages saying "thank you" for the in depth answer. I try to give thought out and helpful advice and never just answer with a one sentence. And I ALWAYS use spellchecker BEFORE I send an answer. I should have a Top Contributor rating in Singles and Dating AND Weddings! I'm outraged!

Yeah I looooooove how out of f'n nowhere they pop up on random people's profiles/avatars yet I can't find a damn thing from Yahoo explaining what they are or how you get them...

WTF@that???

And frankly, I think the idea of it only going to those who contribute to one particular subject kinda sucks. I personally think that someone who can only seem to give their contributions to one catergory versus an array of catergories needs to live outside the box. It just makes it seem as though they don't know anything about anything unless it's that ONE topic.

Of course I'm not saying that EVERYONE with the badge is only knowledgeable in that one area, I'm just saying Yahoo manages to make it APPEAR that way.

*** Why not just give the badges to everyone that makes it to Level 7? If they're reached Level 7, then it's a clear indication that they've made it to the "top" by "contributing" to the community. So they can even leave the badge looking exactly how it is but instead give it to those who reach the top.

There will always be thousands upon thousands of people who join Y! Answers daily so it's not as if it will end up being nothing but "top contributors" on here. There will still be diversity, but it will at least be done fairly.

Noticed these today when I signed on, haven't read up on what it is all about yet but I'm thinking it has something to do with the percentage of best answers you have received up until now. If that's the case then it doesn't mean anything to me because so many of the highest answerer's are bogus.
