"A rat's diet should consist of fresh pellets (Purina Lab Chow® or other reputable brands) and fresh vegetables and fruits. Fruits should be limited to about 5-10% of the total diet because they may cause loose stool and have limited nutrients. Dark green leafy vegetables (chard, parsley, etc) and thick yellow meaty vegetables (squash, yams, etc.) are high in vitamin A and are preferred. For treats, rats can be given most of the things that people eat, as long as they are not high in salt, sugar, fat (and are alcohol free.) Low salt, low fat potato or corn chips, bread, breakfast cereals (unsweetened), cheese, chicken or rib bones are all good treats. Avoid chocolate and avocado since they are toxic to small animals."

Since rats are omnivorous they'll eat anything. I used to feed my pet rats pieces of meat for a treat and they absolutely loved it. Here are a few links that will give you lots of info.

Not cheese, for cheese is derived from an animal. You never want to feed your rat meat. It is not only unhealthy, but will make them carnivorous and may inspire them to bite you. No cheese. Aside from pellets, raw veggies and fruit. No bananas. Its bad for their stomaches. Hard to digest. I used to own 26 rats at one point.

My ratties love spinach, baked sweet potato, carrots, yogurt drops, and an occasional m&m.
