USING A external DVD drive, can I install windows vista?

I ran the advisor, says I should be able to run Vista. I have not bought Vista yet.

You have to configure your BIOS to boot from a USB device. All new computers have that feature. You can invoke an install by running setup from the CD, but setup will assume that you're doing an upgrade from XP to Vista. It's better to install the entire OS from scratch. That way no remnants of XP is left behind. Full installs usually are better than upgrading the OS--just my opinion.

with installing from an external DVD drive, your BIOS has to be able to support booting off external media..
